I’m Martti Korhonen. I live in Finland. My background lies in ethnology and museums, where my main interest is built heritage. That’s also one of my key themes in the field of photography. I’m particularly interested in traditional Finnish log houses.

As a photographer I’m self-educated, or should I say self-educating. I may have already learned many things, but I frequently experience the joy of learning or find myself in situation where my skills just aren’t enough to carry out my vision. I’ve done photography as part of my museum profession too, but consider myself an amateur.

My main medium in photography is film. Old technologies – or old junk to put it more bluntly – has always attracted me. That’s why I feel special affection towards vintage cameras, especially those big and wooden ones. I find the required patience and involvement fitting for my personality. Spending a day alone with thermos full of coffee and a slow camera in some humble old shack might be the best thing I know. But it’s not just about the experience of using old technology. Time after time I’m amazed of what a 120 years old camera is capable of.

I have a small and ascetic darkroom in Mouhijärvi, Finland. It has it’s shortcomings – for example water has to be carried from the well – but it’s sufficient for my needs. I make prints when I have the time. Some of them are going to be on sale here in this website, so check later if you’re interested!
